From a young age many children across the globe are mesmerized when in front of the television, looking up with smiling faces at the cheery and colorful characters on the screen.

It’s no wonder then that as they grow up, children feel a loyalty and friendly bond towards characters in their favorite programs, often looking to them as friends and those which they look up to.

With some great writing from many show creators, we often see day-to-day life situations played out in programs. From dealing with school bullies to why we should always tell the truth, kids TV programs teach our children the right messages when it comes to growing up well.

Influencing our kids

It’s important that the characters on display to our kids aren’t the depiction of perfection; instead they must appear realistic so they forge a friendship with our kids via the TV screen and our kids can therefore learn lessons from said characters. 

We take a look at some of the best kids’ TV characters who wear glasses, and what this can teach our kids.

Old Favorite Chuckie from the Rugrats

When the program first aired in 1991 it gained a loyal following with kids of all ages. A mix of cute cartoon drawings and some light-hearted plots, the program ran for an impressive 13 years before it ended in 2004.

Chuckie was the ginger-haired best friend of Tommy Pickles. Goofy in style but sweet in personality, Chuckie was always depicted as somewhat of an outsider but could always count on his friends. His purple thick-rimmed rectangular glasses matched his blue t-shirt with planet motif and goofy shoes.

Chuckie is a great character to teach our kids that appearances really aren’t everything. His warm heart and love for his friends and family triumphed over his appearance, which is a great lesson to teach kids.

Leo from Little Einsteins

6-year-old Leo pilots the rocket in the show, and is incredibly clever. He wears orange cargo shorts, has a cool hairstyle and wears bright green round glasses. Whilst Leo fits the common stereotype of being clever and wearing glasses, his cool hairstyle and great personality show him in a good light.

Episodes focused on differences

Aside from characters wearing glasses, there have also been many episodes of favorite children’s TV programs in which characters go for eye tests or doctors check-ups. This shows our children the real-life situations sometimes we may find ourselves in and when these occurrences then happen to our children, chances are they’ll recognize the situation and possibly become less worried by an eye test or similar occurrence.
