What’s the newest sound coming out of the New Jersey rock scene? Amid the lawn mowers and minivans of the northern Jersey suburbs, you’ll soon hear the buzz created by StarFish. This band of lifelong musicians is creating family friendly rock anthems and raising a new generation of music aficionados. Following on the success of their first CD Starfish Rocks! StarFish will release Enter Sandbox on June 1st on the new family music label, WorldSound Kids.
Enter Sandbox (a title giving a firm nod to Metallica) showcases StarFish’s range of musical references, with riffs borrowed from the Beatles to classic 1970s rock: Cream, Yes, and Deep Purple to name a few. While the rock vibe will entertain even the most jaded family concertgoer, the lyrics relate to important things in kids’ lives – treehouses, time outs, homework and parents who always say “No.”
StarFish band members (StingRay on lead vocals and guitar, Grateful Dave aka Dave Hartkern on drums and vocals, Moose aka Marc Stern on lead guitar, Dr. Yes aka Mark Asch on keyboards and vocals and AntFarm aka Antar Goodwin on bass guitar) are all lifelong musicians who also happen to be dads. Based in Maplewood, NJ, near New York City, they formed their band four years ago and have been playing for families ever since. Their first CD, StarFish Rocks! generated rave reviews, including Cookie magazine, which placed StarFish in the cadre of artists making smart music for kids today. A new song, “StarFish Stomp,” will be featured in Rock and Roll Playground, a new CD from Putumayo Kids, this summer, too.
StarFish plans a busy spring and summer of concerts in their home state as well as New York and Pennsylvania. For more information and updates, visit
